Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport also opened in 2021. By 2035, China aims to have 400 airports in total (up from about 241 in 2020). Not all of these will be international, but many will have international capabilities. The rate of construction for airports capable of international operations is to 2-3 per year. China plans to invest about 1.5 trillion yuan ($231.8 billion) in civil aviation during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).
