Year of the Cat

John Grayson, a successful but disillusioned American businessman, is drawn to the enigmatic city of Casablanca in search of meaning and purpose. In his youth, on a visit to Morocco during spring break from college, he met and fell in love with a local woman, a woman with the tattoo of a cat on her cheek. Now, rich beyond measure, but unfulfilled, he returns, 25 years later, to Casablanca in an attempt to regain that lost love. And so he wanders the bustling streets. And, as if by miracle more than chance, he bumps into a captivating woman, with a cat tattoo on her cheek, who disappears into a seemingly ordinary café. Upon entering, Grayson is inexplicably transported back in time to Casablanca in 1940.

In this era, the city is a hotbed of espionage and political intrigue, as the Allies and Axis powers vie for control of North Africa. The café serves as a clandestine meeting place for spies, resistance fighters, and opportunists. Grayson, struggling to adapt to the unfamiliar surroundings, inadvertently becomes entangled in a high-stakes mission to rescue a prominent scientist who is being pursued by Nazi agents.

The woman, Isabella, knows John is from the future and that he has been sent by powers she does not understand. She recruits John because they need to break the Nazi code and learn what they plan to do in North Africa. If they learn the plans, then they can pass them along to the Allies who may then drive the Germans out of Africa.

Then comes the most important mission of the war for the resistance: find, protect and sneak out of the country, the scientist, Dr. Klara Schroeder, is a brilliant physicist who has developed groundbreaking technology that could turn the tide of the war. Isabella, the resistance and John Grayson, make their plan, all the while trying to stay ahead of the Nazi, led by colonel Kruger, who must stop the resistance from fulfilling their mission and capture Dr. Schroeder.

Meanwhile, in the world John came from, strange, inexplicable things are occurring. Buildings and people are popping in and out of existence. The space time continuum has been broken by John’s teleportation to the past. He is interfering with history and in doing so, is changing history between 1940 and 2016.

In the cat and mouse game, Grayson uncovers hidden truths about himself and the world, ultimately discovering the meaning and fulfillment he has been seeking.

The story offers a fresh and thrilling perspective, combining elements of historical fiction, espionage, and romance, while exploring the themes of self-discovery, sacrifice, and the power of human connection.
